The Palmbowl design was originally created for Alinea. Our goal was to guide the diner’s behavior towards a specific eating sequence without the need for instruction. In this case, the guest intuitively focuses on the suspended bite on the fork before chasing it with the liquid below.
The Palmbowl was made of porcelain at our Chicago studio. It was fired on a specialized support in an oxidation atmosphere to retain its shape during firing and to develop its warm cream color. It was hand-cast, carved, and sanded to active its smooth, tactile finish in small batches.
NOTE: The Palmbowl will not balance on its own and has to be handed directly to the guest. The Palmbowl fits a variety of smaller fork shapes and sizes. it is originally designed to fit Guy Degrenne’s Aquatic dessert fork used at Alinea at the time.
